Airsoft Battlegrounds 26 November 2010 - Tank's Notes

Like Zero had posted, this was our first time going to Airsoft Battlegrounds in Rocklin, CA.
We are excited to play at a new field for ourselves, but to also check out how new this place is (only 2 months old) as we have heard great things from the employees at the Sacramento Airsoft Extreme.
It was helpful that the admission price was very affordable, $20 at standard admission, $10 for military and law enforcement, and since Zero and I went during Black Friday, they had a special of buy one admission, get one free!

Once inside, we set up in the staging area and for future reference I would bring a few chairs and tables for ourselves (since there were so many people!). The rules were simple with regards to no shooting underneath vehicles, and honoring the rules of Parlay (players are too close to engage, so both players take an out regardless of whom shot who first) and BANG BANG (courtesy of calling someone out instead of shooting them close range). Because of the sheer amount of people we had to be divided into 4 teams, with 2 teams rotating about every 10 minutes. Rules varied from semi to full auto, as well as one or no respawns. The games were fast, fun, and the people were indeed friendly. Believe me when I say that not only was the facility great, but the referees and staff were knowledgeable, friendly, and professional. I do highly recommend this place (regardless of their sponsorship to our team) and the Mercs hope to be out there again soon in full force!

The staff specified that it was great to come on weekdays (check the website for details) for weekday fun as well as various game types for all levels of players!

Stay tuned for Pt. 2 of our footage from the ASBG game on 11.26.10!

Airsoft Battlegrounds 26 November 2010

Tank and I decided to take a Black Friday trip up to Rocklin, CA, just a little north past Sacramento if you're coming from the Bay Area, to an fairly new arena called Airsoft Battlegrounds. They had a special buy one ticket get one free, so we decided to see what they were all about. When I first played, the set up took some getting used to. I was also using my TM MP5K that I bought from EK, which could probably explain my additional feeling of unfamiliarity. This is fine because according to ASBG's site, they are constantly changing the field to should change up strategies. But after playing a round, Tank and I really took a liking to the field. With the constant change of scenarios every game and being on the clock, we ended up having fun and felt that we got our day's worth of airsofting, regardless of who won or if the game was finished.

The biggest plus is that the people there have great sportsmanship and understand the rule of parlay. This one rule is a big deal and ends all problems of airsofting especially in a CQC settings. And I like that a lot. The prices of the rentals are very reasonable and the pricing of equipment to buy is not going to break the bank either. The staff was very welcoming and professional and the facilities were clean. They have informed us of special days for certain events in their arena, for example Wednesdays are Pistol and Shotgun only days.

For more information click on the link: Airsoft Battlegrounds

POV videos from Tank and Zero will be posted soon! Also, we would like to thank Airsoft Battlegrounds for becoming our latest sponsor.

Tank at Civilian Army Airsoft

On Friday November 5th, I was able to play with a few players from Civilian Army Airsoft located in Vacaville, CA. Pictured I am pictured (left) and with Colorado (right). Colorado has been the owner and
coordinator of the field since its inception (about a year and a half ago). I have nothing but good news about the field and its players. Though I was only able to play two games, the players are friendly and welcoming and the atmosphere is relaxed and easy going. The terrain is hilly and
variable with plenty of cover from foliage and trees with bunkers and sandbags to boot. They play variable game types as well. II highly recommend to come and check out the field and have fun playing airsoft! Mercs will be
returning to the field in full force sometime in the near future.

Sponsor Order

My apologies, we didn't get any photos of the unboxing yesterday. My camera decided to break so I have nothing to show (which is unfortunate because that packing was something else ;P ). Anyways, we placed an order at the beginning of the month for custom pistols and a bunch of magazines and tactical gear. They also included a sponsor pack with company patches.

The pistols turned out great (though mine order was incorrect and we are trying to correct that problem). The M9 has a great heft to it while maintaining a nice light cycle. The FN 5-7 has a great kick for a polycarbonate gun and the attention to detail on the weight was impressive (same weight as the real steel when fully loaded). As for the 5.1, well what's to say? Its a hi-capa and a great sidearm. The 1911 slide is an interesting touch though.

We would also like to apologize for the lack of video uploads on our youtube channel. We are all college students and its been nothing but midterms for everyone. So we really haven't had much time for anything other than school these passed two weeks and some of this upcoming week. Hopefully we will have the video up by sometime next week.

Airsmithing Part 3

The adventure continues. So we got the mp5k fully functional again. It's not that impressive of an fps increase with the sp120 spring but that is just because of its short barrel length. If CQB City allows its use indoors with an extended barrel then I will throw one in and see a better fps increase. Its currently shooting at 250-260 fps which is still better than the stock 230.

The m15a4 is fully functional now. Chronos in at 365 with the m120 spring. We happen to have another m15a4 that is not functioning with an upgraded cylinder and piston head so I'm going to throw those parts into mine and see if I can get some more power out of that m120 spring.

Sponsorships Part 3

It's been finalized and we are now sponsored by GoPro. We are very excited about this latest sponsor. We are the first airsoft team to be sponsored by GoPro and we can't wait to be able to capture more footage. We can now capture from the point of view of different members of the team other than Tank and Zero.

Look forward to seeing you all at CQB City on the 10th.

We secured another sponsor recently. We didn't want to post anything until it was finalized. So without further ado, we are now sponsored eHobby Asia. Be sure to check out our sponsors sites (links in the sponsors gadget to the left). More in the works so like before, I will let you all know when we secure them.

Oh and a side note, we realize we having really given much info about our members besides those mentioned in the about us. I'm writing up member bios and will post them when they are complete.

Airsmithing Part 2

Well things went a lot smoother today. Got the mp5k running but their is a feeding issue so I'm at a loss. That will have to wait for an AEX trip. Still have to figure out a battery for it since I need a 9.6 volt now.

That said, I feel like I finally have a firm grasp on working on gearboxes. I've successfully worked on both version 2 and version 3 gearboxes. I'm really looking forward to upgrading my p90 at this point ;-).

On a side note, it looks like we have secured another sponsor. We will make an announcement once its been finalized.

Mercs: CQB City September 18th 2010 POV Pt 2

Part two with Zero and Tank running around. Changes person part way through.

Point Man,
Zero

Airsmithing

We all have to start learning some where right? Zero and myself have been working on three different guns with mixed results.

My CA m15a4 has been a love hate project gun. Installed a tight bore and an m120 spring in it over a year ago...maybe two and the spring for the anti reversal latch popped out of place and was ground flat. Final got around to replacing the latch and getting the gun operational once more just recently. Took her to AEX tonight to chrono and clocked in at 300fps. Frustration took over at that point. It appears to be a the hop up and gearbox not having a tight seal. Installed a o-ring and now its a tight fit. I'll have to take it in again and hopefully the fps will be around 380-400 this time.

Now the mp5k is just a mess. We gave up for the night as we both have class tomorrow (well actually today). Long story short (as I really should be sleeping now lol) we installed a metal spring guide, sp120 spring, new shims, stainless bushings, and a high torque motor. BUT, its not turning over and the gearbox is locking up. FAIL, try again next week.

The third gun is a CA SLR-105. We really haven't gotten to that one yet as we need a new wiring assembly since this one has...well....melted ;-)

Well time to turn in. Good night.

CQB City Day Game 12 Sep 10

Filmed at CQB City. Insurgents won the day.

Uniforms

Our team competes on the insurgent team at CQB City. Therefore you wear the specified uniform.

Our team uniform consists of a custom black t-shirt AEX branded t-shirt (as we are now sponsored by them) and black pants (black Dickies work pants are highly recommended, black BDU pants ok). Upon joining please provide the GM (myself) with a plain black t-shirt or PR rep with your shirt size and $5 ($10 if you would like a hat as well) to purchase an AEX shirt. Also provide measurements of the circumference of your upper arm (around the bicep, where your sleeve covers). PLEASE DO NOT FLEX when taking the measurement. If you do so the team armband made for you will not fit.

Team colors consist of orange and black. Please feel free to customize your look however you like as long as you stick to the color scheme and wear the team/sponsor shirts.

Your GM, EK

We are currently working on a new design for team shirts. You will be notified if we make any changes.

Rules

Safety Equipment:
- Elbow and knee pads are highly recommend. The Field consists of concrete and wooden surfaces. Knee pads will also allow you to slide in and out of cover.
-Eye protection is mandatory and you will not be allowed on the field without eye protection.
---Paintball masks are acceptable
---Metal mesh screen goggles are not acceptable
---Full face protection is not mandatory but it is highly recommended that you protect your nose and teeth. Not everyone follows set field rules and you can end up getting shot up close in the mouth or nose resulting in a loss of teeth and or a serious bloody mess.
-Proper clothing must be worn.
---Sturdy pants such as Dickies work pants or BDUs (for our team, the color must be black)
---Boots are highly recommend but not required. Wear high traction footware as the concrete surfaces are slick

Weapons:
Shotguns, pistols, SMGs, grenades (hand and shell types), short and long rifles are all acceptable. The fields we use have a 400fps velocity limit so make sure that your guns chrono in at acceptable velocities

Engagement:
-Airsoft is a game based on honor and we abide by it. If you get hit, call your hits. Just because the opponent is cheating doesn't make it right for you to do so also.
-Read and know the rules for any field we patron. In order to play, you must know the rules of the field throughly and enforce them.
